Slack
Add Betty to your Slack workspace, and your team can ask her for work where they already talk about it. Mention @Betty in a channel, or send her a direct message, and she reads the thread, builds the Campaign in Better Email, and replies in the thread with a summary and a link to it.
Betty works for people who have a seat in your Better Email Organization, and she works with their access. Someone without a seat gets a short reply saying so, and Betty doesn't start.
If you don't see Slack under Settings, then Betty AI, then Connectors, it isn't turned on for your Organization yet. Contact us to enable it.
Before you start
You will need:
- an admin user in Better Email
- permission to install apps in your Slack workspace, or a Slack admin who approves the request
Add Betty to Slack
- Open Settings, choose Betty AI, then Connectors.
- Open Slack.
- Under Workspace, click Add to Slack.
- Slack shows what Betty may do. Check the workspace in the top right corner, then click Allow.
Back in Better Email, the workspace appears under Workspace.
One Organization connects one Slack workspace, and a workspace can only be connected to one Organization.
Ask Betty for a Campaign
Betty needs to be in a channel before you can mention her there. Mention @Betty in the channel, and Slack offers to add her.
Write the brief in a Slack message or a thread: what the Campaign is for, the audience, key messages, dates, and anything else Betty should know. Attach any images you want her to use. Then do one of these:
- Mention @Betty in the thread, or in a new message with the brief in it.
- Message Betty directly. Open her from Apps in Slack's sidebar. Every message there is for her, so you don't need to mention her.
Betty adds a 👀 reaction to your message when she starts. She reads the thread, including messages from other people and the images in it, builds the Campaign in Better Email, and replies in the thread with a short summary, a picture of the top of the email, and an Open in Better Email button. When she's done, the 👀 becomes ✅.
To ask for changes, mention @Betty again in the same thread. She carries on with the Campaign she built there instead of starting a new one, and replies with what changed. In a direct message, reply in her thread. You don't need to mention her.
If Betty needs more information, she asks in the thread. Answer the same way you asked for changes.
What Betty can do
Betty works in Better Email as the person who asked, with their role. She can do in Slack what she can do for them in Better Email's own chat: build and change Campaigns, find and list them, and tell you how sent ones performed.
Betty only reads a thread when someone mentions her in it or messages her directly. She doesn't read the rest of your channels.
Slack limits apps that aren't listed in its Marketplace yet. Betty can read the whole of a short thread, but in a long one she sees the first 15 messages and the one that called her in. If several people ask her in the same minute, she may only see the message that called her in. Put the important parts of the brief in that message, or near the start of the thread.
How Betty knows who you are
Betty matches you by the email address on your Slack profile. If it's the email you sign in to Better Email with, there's nothing to set up.
If you sign in to Better Email with a different email, link your Slack account once:
- Open Settings, choose Betty AI, then Connectors, then Slack.
- Under Your Slack account, click Link Slack account.
- Sign in to Slack with your own account and allow it.
Betty now recognizes you by your Slack account. To remove the link, click Unlink in the same place.
People from other companies in a shared Slack Connect channel can't ask Betty for work, even if they have a Better Email seat. They can ask her in their own workspace, if it's connected.
Disconnect Slack
- Open Settings, choose Betty AI, then Connectors, then Slack.
- Under Workspace, click Disconnect and confirm.
Betty leaves every channel and stops answering in the workspace. Anything she is working on there stops too. Her app stays in Slack's list of installed apps until a Slack admin removes it there.
A Slack admin removing the Betty app in Slack disconnects her too.
Troubleshooting
- Betty says she couldn't find a Better Email seat for the email on your Slack profile. Either you don't have a seat in this Organization, or you sign in to Better Email with another email. Link your Slack account as described above, or ask a Better Email admin to invite you.
- Betty says she only works for members of the workspace she was added to. You're in a shared channel from another company's workspace. Ask in your own workspace instead.
- Betty says she's still working on the last request in this thread. Wait for her reply, then ask again.
- Betty doesn't react when you mention her. Check that she's in the channel. Mention her and accept Slack's offer to add her, or add her from the channel's settings.
- Better Email says the workspace is already connected to another Organization. Someone in another Better Email Organization added Betty to it. They need to disconnect it first.
- Better Email says this Organization is already connected to another Slack workspace. Disconnect that workspace first.
