For admins
Images from SFMC Content Builder
If your team keeps its email images in Salesforce Marketing Cloud's Content Builder, editors can pick them straight from a Campaign's image fields instead of downloading and uploading them. Betty can search Content Builder too.
There is no key to enter. SFMC Content Builder uses the credentials of your Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration, so you need one set up before you can connect it. Better Email only reads from Content Builder. It never changes or deletes anything there.
Content Builder images belong to a business unit, so you browse them from a Campaign. Each Campaign shows the business unit of its Destination, read with that Destination's Integration. Templates and the Design System Editor have no Destination, so they don't offer SFMC Content Builder.
If you don't see SFMC Content Builder under Settings, then Betty AI, then Connectors, either your Organization has no Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration yet, or the Asset Library isn't turned on for it. Contact us to enable it.
An Organization connects one of Cloudinary, Bynder or SFMC Content Builder. If you already use Cloudinary or Bynder, Better Email asks you to confirm before SFMC Content Builder replaces it. Replacing deletes the stored Cloudinary or Bynder credentials and clears Recently used. Templates, and Campaigns without a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Destination, then have no image library at all. Images already in Campaigns stay as they are.
Before you start
You will need:
- an admin user in Better Email
- a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration that is enabled
- the
documents_and_images_readandsaved_content_readscopes on that Integration's installed package. They are part of the baseline scopes in the Integration guide, so most setups already have them.
Connect SFMC Content Builder
- Open Settings, choose Betty AI, then Connectors.
- Under Asset library, open SFMC Content Builder.
- Click Connect.
Before it saves anything, Better Email checks that one of your Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integrations can read images from Content Builder. The Connection card then shows which Integrations it uses, when it was connected, and who connected it.
Disconnect stops everyone in the Organization from picking images from Content Builder until an admin connects SFMC Content Builder again. Your Integrations keep working as before. Images copied into Campaigns stay as they are, and images a field links to still load from Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
Choose an image from Content Builder
Open a Campaign whose Destination is on a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration and select a Block in the Campaign Editor. An empty image field offers Choose from SFMC Content Builder next to Upload file. Which of these you see is set per field in the Design System, see Image sources.
The picker opens on All images, newest first, with the business unit's Content Builder folders above the images.
- Browse by clicking a folder. Folders nest, and the path above the images takes you back up.
- Search by name. Search looks through every folder, even when you have one open. Every word you type has to appear in the image name.
- Sort by newest, oldest, or name (Name A–Z).
- Pick an image by clicking it, or with the keyboard: the arrow keys move between images, Enter picks,
/jumps to search, and Esc closes the picker.
The picker checks each image against the field's size rules, as it does for any image library. An image outside the field's minimum or maximum width or height is greyed out. An image narrower than twice the width it is shown at is marked Low res.
Recently used in your organization at the top lists the Content Builder images people picked last in that business unit.
Which images are listed
The picker lists published GIF, JPEG, PNG, WebP and SVG images from the Campaign's business unit. Drafts, other file types and other business units' images don't appear.
Copied or linked
You pick an image by its Content Builder published URL. That is the same link you get when you copy the image's URL in Salesforce Marketing Cloud, for example https://image.example.com/lib/fe3c1171756402747c1d71/m/1/hero.jpg.
By default the field copies the image into Better Email's storage and shows it with its size and From SFMC Content Builder. The copy resizes and crops like any upload, and the Campaign keeps working if someone moves or deletes the original in Content Builder.
A Design System developer can turn copying off for a field with Mirror images to Better Email. The field then keeps the Content Builder link, and the email loads the image from Salesforce Marketing Cloud. See Mirror images to Better Email.
Ask Betty to find images
Once SFMC Content Builder is connected, Betty can search it while you work on a Campaign. She searches the business unit of that Campaign's Destination, the same images you see in the picker. Ask her in plain words, for example: "Find our spring sale banner in Content Builder and use it in the hero."
Betty can't search Content Builder without a Campaign in focus, for example while she works on a Design System, because there is no business unit to look in.
Troubleshooting
- There is no SFMC Content Builder row under Asset library. Your Organization has no enabled Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration. Set one up first.
- There is no Choose from SFMC Content Builder button. SFMC Content Builder isn't connected, the Campaign's Destination isn't on a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration, you don't have access to that Destination, or the Design System has turned the image library off for that field. Templates never show it.
- "Salesforce Marketing Cloud refused to show this business unit's images". The Integration's installed package is missing the
documents_and_images_readorsaved_content_readscope. Add it in Salesforce Marketing Cloud. - "Could not sign in to Salesforce Marketing Cloud with this Integration's credentials". An admin can check the client ID and secret in Integrations.
- "Salesforce Marketing Cloud is limiting requests". Wait a moment and try again.
- An image you expect is missing. Check that it is published in Content Builder, that it is in the business unit of the Campaign's Destination, and that it is an image rather than another file type.
- An image is greyed out. It is outside the width or height the field allows.
