Email Editor

The Email Editor is where marketers turn a template into a finished campaign. It combines a live preview with the controls needed to build, review, and export the email.

Layout

The editor has two main areas:

  • Preview area on the left, where you see the email as you build it
  • Sidebar on the right, where you add modules and edit settings

The top bar gives you quick access to save status, preview size controls, review, and active collaborators.

TODO: Add a screenshot of the Email Editor with the preview area, sidebar, and top bar labeled.

The sidebar is organized into focused tabs:

  • Modules: add new modules to the email
  • Block: edit the currently selected module
  • Global: edit email-level settings that apply across the campaign
  • Chat: work with Betty if AI features are enabled for your organization

Building with modules

Modules are the building blocks of the email. You can drag them into the email, rearrange them, and fill in their fields.

Each module comes from the selected template. If something is missing or too rigid, that is usually a template issue rather than an email issue.

Global vs module settings

Use Global settings for values that affect the whole email, such as brand, theme, language, or footer behavior.

Use Block settings for values that only belong to one module, such as a headline, CTA URL, image, or layout toggle.

Preview modes

The editor supports multiple preview widths so you can check both desktop and mobile behavior while you work.

Some organizations also use segment preview to see how variant content changes for different audiences.

Validation and review

Template authors can add validation rules to fields. When a field does not meet those rules:

  • the field shows a warning state
  • the editor highlights what needs attention
  • the Review step stays blocked until the issues are fixed

This keeps required content, link rules, and similar constraints enforceable without manual QA every time.

Collaboration

Better Email supports real-time collaboration in the editor. If other people are editing the same email, you can see their presence in the toolbar and watch updates appear without reloading the page.

Betty in the editor

If Betty is enabled, the Chat tab can help you create, rewrite, and improve content directly in the editor. Betty works with the modules and settings available in the current template, so the output stays grounded in your design system.
